Any boards arrived?

Added by foft almost 7 years ago

The boards are pre-flashed with v7 I think. This does not work with NTSC. So I suggest flashing with v8 as the first action if you want to run NTSC.

I'm working on v9 which will include initial PBI support and I'll also double check the various modes.

I received a text from the Post Office that I have a parcel from Greece out for delivery today. Hopefully it is my board.

Fingers crossed!

Worth flashing v8 core when you get it since NTSC works on that. I'm still trying to get v9 working with the initial PBI support...

Did you think about the keyboard mapping stuff or just get a UK keyboard in the end?

My board has arrived, but I have not been able to start it either on TV or on Monitor. Tomorrow I will try again.

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by foft almost 7 years ago

Did you do the SD card setup? The board currently uses that for the ROM. Panos posted an image, see the wiki for a link.

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by xxl almost 7 years ago

Yes, I tested two different SD cards. Tomorrow will try another power supply.

I think it was set up for 50Hz VGA by default. Some monitors and tvs will not support this directly. Did you check sound to see if its actually booting? You'll get the pokey bubbling noise.

Works :-) after the reset on the motherboard.

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by foft almost 7 years ago

How did you fix it?

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by xxl almost 7 years ago

I do nothing. Eclair starts when I press the ResetSW button.

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by foft almost 7 years ago

Weird. Try a different psu and sd card.

I'll check your video after work.

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by foft almost 7 years ago

@xxl - no! Can you try v8? I hear v9 is iffy for some people...

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by xxl almost 7 years ago

I just ordered USB-Blaster, have to wait until it arrives.

RE: Any boards arrived? - Added by foft almost 7 years ago

I'm going to work on improving stability once I finish up the pbi support...

I just picked it up from the post office. Tonight a guy is bringing by an mini-ITX case I bought from the local market place.
I'm going to install it this weekend!

Fantastic, the fun begins:-)

Please feel free to ask for anything you get stuck on. I don't mind being asked the same thing multiple times.

I should add, I made some simple 'get started' videos. The core has moved on somewhat since, now it stores profiles/rom on the built in flash card. The sd card can still override these, so the settings file on the sd card to initially get in the right video mode works.

Some other useful notes from chats online about the boards:

---
What is included is:
i) Main board with all the important bits
ii) Add-on board with SIO, PBI, Cart, SIO2PC USB and joystick ports
iii) 40 pin cables to connect them together
iv) Standoffs to connect boards
There is also a wire to connect SIO audio in to the ADC (for tape/disk loading sounds), not sure if Panos is including that or not.

What you need:
a) USB keyboard + I recommend getting stickers (https://www.4keyboar...d-stickers.html)
b) Real joystick and/or USB joystick
c) VGA cable or HDMI cable (For composite/svideo you need a custom VGA->monitor cable)
d) Optional: USB blaster to flash new cores (Optional, only if you want to upgrade it) - e.g. https://www.ebay.co....90AAOSwGMJa5g2T. Also download Quartus free version from Altera website (if you want to flash new cores)
e) USB power supply with USB B (big end as seen on printers). I suggest this one: https://l.facebook.c...G-fQM2uPpjVhvLo
f) Audio cable from jack socket (suggested even if using HDMI, the HDMI audio is not very good yet).
