Added by 917k almost 7 years ago

Just got my unit up and running, flashed to v8 core...

CPU Turbo: 1x
Drive Turbo: Standard
Ram: 1MB
Rom: ATARIXL.ROM
Cart: NONE

VIDEO SETTINGS
Tv Standard: NTSC
Scanlines: 1
Composite Sync: 0

Results trying to run software from SD Card Image:

Cold Boot w/Option button held down initially to disable BASIC:

Bombjack.xex - Displayed the Bombjack graphic, then Blue Screen w/cursor for a few minutes, screen then turns to a flickery garbled mess of characters, then black screen. Waited several more minutes, does not load/run. ☹️
DigDug.xex - Blue Screen w/cursor, flashes black every so often. Waited several more minutes, does not load/run. ☹️
Pitfall2.xex - Blue Screen w/cursor, flashes black every so often. Waited several more minutes, loaded and ran successfully. 👍
Popeye.xex - Black screen with 1 flickery horizontal lines of characters, black screen, Waited several more minutes, does not load/run. ☹️
River Raid.xex - Loaded and ran successfully. 👍
Pacman (final).xex - Blue screen w/cursor, screen then turns to a flickery garbled mess of characters, then black screen. Waited several more minutes, does not load/run. ☹️
Castle Crisis.xex - Blue screen w/cursor, screen then turns to a flickery garbled mess of characters, then black screen. Waited several more minutes, does not load/run. ☹️
Ms. Pac-Man Enhanced.xex - Displayed the Ms. Pac-Man graphic, screen then turns to a flickery garbled mess of characters, then black screen. Loaded and ran successfully. 👍
Boulder22.xex - - Blue screen w/cursor, screen then turns to a garbled mess of characters, then black screen, Loaded and ran once successfully... three other times did not load/run. ☹️

Not a real impressive outing, only three of nine xex games loaded and ran successfully, with an additional one running successfully one time out of three tries. All files ran without issue on Altirra 2.80 set to NTSC, 1MB.

I continued to try loading/running River Raid and after about five successful times loading and running using F10 to cold boot, the system would begin to boot into BASIC every time even though I had the F8 option key held down initially to disable BASIC. The disk sounds are present as if the game were loading as it did during the successful attempts however instead of executing the game, the BASIC prompt would appear instead.

That looks... errrr... pathetic, which it isn't!

I suspect the power supply.

Can you try xram21?

Although thinking about it, did you flash v8.sof or v8.jic? v8.sof only lasts until switched off and we know v7.sof is bad.

For my own sanity I double checked these do run properly:)

I flashed using v8.jic, I am using a 5v 2A power supply ( https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0125U4J1I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ).

Attached is a pic of the memory test results (not sure why files are not keeping original name, please add .png extension).

I tried a different power supply and seem to be having better luck getting these to run, I have now been able to successfully load and run Castle Crisis, Boulder Dash, Dig Dug, Pac-Man, and Popeye. YAY! Of the list above, only Bombjack still won't work. Thanks for the suggestion about the power supply. I was getting a little concerned that they were working on yours but not on mine. :)

Can you post the bombjack image? Mine turned out to be Gunpowder Charlie:)

Yeah I was starting to worry too! I wonder if some supplies are too noisy and we need more caps on the input.

It's the version on the SDCARD.zip file in the files section.

Bomb jack works fine here. It flickers on NTSC - as it does on altirra too. Yes it takes a long time to load...
